Kandinsky was the first modern human being to create an abstract painting. He grew up in Russia and had a early passion for art.Year 4 were inspired by Kandinsky and decided to do our own piece of art like his.We got out a piece of paper and oil pastels and started straight away! I enjoyed everyone's unique piece of art.I also loved making the circles and getting our hands a bit messy with the oil pastels - Sami In year 4 we are learning about an artist named Kandinsky. Kandinsky is a talented person who draws colourful circles. He is also famous for abstract art. In class we drew some of his work. We folded a piece of paper and we drew circles with oil pastels. The thing I liked about the circles is that we got to pick the colours that we liked and our circles had different shapes. We used our imagination to make fabulous circles.Kandinsky was the creator of the first modern abstract paintings. He was born in Russia and was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. - Grace P. In class we learnt about Kandinsky's circle painting and abstract paintings. I liked the use of colour and the abstract shapes. You can see different pictures and shapes in the abstract paintings. Kandinsky's art is colourful, weird, bright and has interesting images. - Sophia Kandinsky was born in Moscow and created wonderful abstract paintings. He was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. The painting we studied was his circles. We did our own Kandinsky circles using oil pastels and mine is on the top left. - Molly

I love the way Roald Dahl writes his books by putting funny parts in them. Right now Year 4 are reading the BFG which might be the funniest book I have heard. We have also read the Magic Finger also by Roald Dahl. In science Year 4 have been learning about space and how long it takes for the earth to orbit the sun. I love Mr MP as a teacher. - Daniel Year Four at St Mary’s have been thoroughly enjoying Mr MP as their new class teacher. As they have never had a male teacher before they didn’t know what to expect but it has been a wonderful surprise. In the past few weeks Year Four have been looking very deeply into all their subjects such as: Science (space), Religion (Moses from the Old Testament). I would go on but there are too many to list as they have been getting through so many things. Mr MP is wonderful in the way he makes sure things get done in a very calm fashion so everyone knows every detail and they don’t just learn a bit. As Yr4 have been looking deeply into all subjects I asked a student, Grace K, to find out her opinion. Grace stated that she loves science and that it has been “fun and educational”. Apparently she enjoyed learning about space and in particular she absolutely loved comparing planets in groups. Yr4 is wonderful in the way they learn a new thing every day, for example, today they learnt a new topic in Maths which was Area and Perimeter. We look forward to catching up with Year 4 again later in the year. - Grace K. We have been learning a variety of subjects in Year 4. I have enjoyed playing spelling buzz. This consists of playing a team spelling game while standing in a circle. We have also learnt the triangle numbers problem which is also fun. The lesson that I enjoy is Space. This is a science class that teaches us about the orbit of the sun, moon and earth in relation to the universe. We have also been reading Roald Dahl books like the Magic Finger and Big Friendly giant. My dad likes these books a lot and we read the Twits and Fantastic Mr Fox over the summer holidays. - Sophia In Year Four we are learning about space, the Ten Commandments and we are reading Roald Dahl books. When the teacher teaches us about space we learn about planets and how far apart they are and how big they are. We are learning about the Ten Commandments and the teacher asked us to copy a picture of Moses. We also wrote down some of our class rules. Most of the time, we like to read some Roald Dahl books. We read "The Magic Finger" and we are still reading "The BFG". The Magic Finger is about a girl who sometimes turns people into animals when she gets mad. The BFG is about a little girl who gets snatched away by a giant. We still don't know the end. Roald Dahl is my favourite author. I am looking forward to Term 2 as we are going to learn about animals and plants. - Grace P This year in class we have learnt lots of things. I will write about two of them. One thing we are learning about is 2D triangles and their angles. We have learnt that all well drawn and well measured triangles add up to 180 degrees. Also I know that in an isosceles triangle there are two equal angles. Another thing we are learning about is space science. One thing we know about is Copernicus and Galileo. Copernicus knew that Earth did not have planets orbiting it -- instead Earth and the planets orbit the sun but he could not prove it. Galileo proved Copernicus right with a telescope in the year 1609. -Angus I am enjoying learning about space. I have one question: How does Earth have gravity and how does it orbit the sun? Sorry that's two questions!!! -Ben Ben, I hope the talk and the video clip shown in class today helped you answer those questions. -mjp |
